Benign Neck tumour surgery cancelled night before - no itu bed available - now ct scan showing bumps in lungs
Hi Moxy1
Yes waiting is rubbish and there is Christmas in the way where everybody is "having fun" around you.
Take a deep breath and try to imagine these bumps are what the others were, not cancer, then put that away and keep busy. Have you family to look after, spend time with; Ideal time to get swept up in it all.
What were the benign tumours you had removed in February? Were you given the biopsy results?
If the thoracic surgeon thinks you are a candidate for surgery I would believe him....which is encouraging.

My neck tumours haven't been removed yet - they did a biopsy in feb and i only spoke to consultant again in april -at first I was to be monitored, but they have continued to grow. I had an op in 2009 for similar type of tumour
I have a wonderful husband who is the best at keeping me calm but its hard. .. we have a fab group of friends and family.... there's so much flu around that we have kind of isolated as I couldn't stand another cancellation so quiet xmas and new year for us x x
I also have my dear mum in a nursing home she has dementia so funnily thats a blessing because she doesn't know whats going on with me
We have a lovely happy life normally but this has knocked us for 6 .
Hope you have a wonderful xmas and thanks for your reply- hope you are keeping well xx Sue
Good evening Moxy1, sorry to hear that the surgery was cancelled, i remember when i was in hospital along with other patients, in the morning i was told that all operations were cancelled except for mine,i never found out why it just goes to show how these things happen out of the blue. I know how frustrating it can be as you get yourself mentally prepared then you have to put everthing on hold, hopefully this virus thats going around will improve and free up some beds,. You would think by now the government has put measures in too cope with situations like this, they never learn as it does not affect them. Wishing you all the best over Christmas and new year. Take care.

Alas with only a limited number of hugely expensive ITU/HD beds it only takes a road traffic accident or other emergency to soak up the beds meaning planned work cannot go ahead. In the hospitals around me respiratory illnesses are not the problem at the moment.
I have also seen the local private hospital blue light patients into my NHS hospital because they did not have an ITU bed post planed surgery thus taking capacity away from the NHS patients. I will get off my soap box now!

The private sector accommodates much planned NHS surgery in turn, increasing capacity for NHS

Hi John my hubby recently had a total knee replacement at our local spire hospital private courtesy of the nhs and private hospital arrangement. He was put on the waiting list May and within 1 hour the list came through with the spire able to see him within 10 days local hospitals were 8 weeks minimum This enabled us to see the consultant get a date which suited us 6 October and the op went ahead with excellent after service with physio All in all this freed up much needed theatre time and appointment s. In our area this is being used for hip and knee replacements. Which frees up space.
