I probably won’t spell the word correctly but I have been dealing with it for ages by lying on my RHS using a mouth device etc. all strategies. I finished radio/chemo 8 weeks back for base of tongue carcinoma and a lymph node and feel like I am bouncing back well. Oddly so is the Apneoa… I did about 5 doses of Fluoconazole for thrush this week and have lost SOME salivary function and this bout of sleep issues is also about 6 days old. Are they related and Johnnyis there a further strategy…? I am , to counter assumptions that go with this condition a normal weight.
Hi. Are you saying your sleep apnoea is getting worse?
Dani
Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
It is returning a bit more assertively than ehen it usually does. It can make a reappearance if I eat or drink something peculiar or drink fruit juice before bed, but is gone in a day or so, and the adaptions I have made it isn’t a problem. This time I am not sure what started it?
Hi. This may not be connected and I have not regarded that I have had obstructive sleep apnoea, but in the first 18 months post treatment I did notice that occasionally my throat (probably base of tongue area) felt "flabby" and vibrated like a low base speaker when I tried to breath or speak. I put this down to residual swelling from the RT or lymphoedema. Not sure if it affected me at night - aside from my wife complaining about the snoring!! These complaints correlated to the flabby feeling. Anyway I did nothing about it and it gradually ceased over the months as I started to generally feel better.
You are still very early doors on recovery. Mention it to your team, but hopefully it will reduce over time.
Thanks Peter,
This would fit… my roof of mouth is a bit flabby(not toned) normally, so my tongue has received a lot of radiation and inflammation so would behave in a similar manner, if provoked!
