How was everyone’s experience of scarring/fibrosis of the throat/tonsil area? I‘m at the end of week 2 of 7 radiotherapy and 2 of 4 chemo and my jaw is closing by the day! I can see the fibrosis at the back left of my throat where i get the extreme pain and tightness and it’s worrying. I’ve had several different surgeries over the years in my back and the surgeon always commented on the high amount of scar tissue and scarring I produce. Has anyone had really bad trismus? Is it easily reversible?

No I haven't and trismus isn't generally a problem till you've finished. Reversible to an extent but hard work. Are you doing your jaw exercises religiously. Talk to your radiographers tomorrow and get your SLT to look at you

Thanks. Yes i do them religiously but all injuries ive had in the past have had problems with scarring and fibrosis. Not sure if everyone gets the exact same exercises but my dentist gave me 32 lollipop sticks one on top of the other to hold between my teeth for 7 seconds and i had been managing that until Friday but in the last 2 days i‘m down to 27 and that’s very painful. At this rate my jaw will be clamped shut soon.
I have trismus but more as a result of my ops for jaw cancer than the radiotherapy. I too do exercises with the lollipop sticks as my surgeon says that it works just as well as the very expensive Therabite machine. I can only open my mouth one finger wide which equates to about 12 lollipop sticks and the norm is 3 fingers wide. I have reached my optimum as it is now 3 years since my last op. However I have found that it is wide enough to get a spoon in to eat, to brush my teeth and get my denture in and out. Keep up the exercises as they will definitely make a difference.
