Hi, so I noticed a lump in my neck about 5 weeks ago, saw GP but had to wait for the 3 weeks of having the lump before the referral could go in, that went in on the 9th but still nothing from hospital as yet.
the GP described it as the size of a golf ball, it’s not painful and is hard. It’s on the right hand side of the neck.
To say I am somewhat nervous is an understatement.
Hi the waiting’s the worst part it’s fear if the unknown keep busy box sets, reading etc. I too has a lump in my collarbone area. We were f we’re in Spain in an extended trip I ignored it. thought I had pulled something. so don’t worry about the wait I first found mine February 2018 diagnosed may 2018 treatment July 2018 I’m still here living a good life. Remember over 90% of urgent referrals are not cancer. But if you’re unlucky enough to join us hnc respond extremely well to treatment.

Hi ... try not to worry that if it's cancer you can't be saved....lots of these swellings go untreated for a long time. If you haven't heard anything by the end of the month. chase them....ring the hospital

That seems pretty silly. Make sure your GP actually referred you on fast track USC (urgent suspect cancer)
If it is cancer it's curable with 90% of us getting well , but equally 90% of referrals aren't cancer. So all you can do is keep busy doing the things you like and do not go anywhere near Google diagnosis. That way madness lies.

Thank you all for the replies. Like everyone it’s the waiting of the unknown. I know the hospital have had the referral as I did ring and check when the NHS app told me to. Will chase with GP if I don’t hear from them in the next week.
Do check with your GP that you have been put on a 2WW pathway. If you have then check with the hospital where you are in the process. The NHS is exceptionally good in most cases but occasionally it does let itself down. I always advise that you should take the initiative and advocate for yourself in the NHS. This is particularly true since you are the person who knows the most about the journey you are on and if things are not flowing correctly then seize the initiative and, gently, get them corrected. Good luck and we are here if and when you need us.
Good evening LMRN151cb49, i agree with Dani and Peter, and cant see why you had to wait as the Dr should refer you straight away, so as the others have said, contact the hospital asap. Hopefully, you will not have to wait much longer, and you can get the treatment you deserve. Wishing you all the best at your referral meeting, take care.
Chris
Thanks for the reply. The 3 week wait was part of the guidelines the GP said, must be for the area I live in. When I did ring the hospital as that’s what the NHS APP says to do they said that’s on there to ensure they had accepted the referral which they said they did on the 10th and should hear something by the 24 or 27! Which I suppose is 14 days.
So I rang the hospital this morning to see if there was any update on actually seeing some. Have to wait till Friday and if no one has rang they will put me through to the secretary but can’t dot till the 2 weeks has passed. She did say that there are working at 2 1/2 week appointment, so I will just have to wait now.
The lump hasn’t got any bigger, but then hasn’t got any smaller either. Have had a cough, nonproductive, but think that was from a cold last week and a slight ache started, think that is more in my head.
the wait is the worst, trying to stay positive but my god it’s hard
Finally had a phone call, appointment next Thursday another week to wait
The waiting is so hard but at least you now have a date ! Hugs xx
Hi when you go take someone with you or ask if you can record the conversation. Yiur brain will turn to mush trying to remember. Take a notebook and pen as well.
write any questions you have and tick them off when answered.
in meantime keep busy youve done the long wait. This time next week you’ll have a better idea if the plan.
Remember over 90% of urgent referrals aren’t cancer . If yiure unlucky enough to join us hnc respond extremely well to treatment. There’s lots of us on here to testify to that.
best wishes
