Hi,

so my surgery went ahead on Monday. A lot shorter than anticipated as I didn’t need a tracheostomy or reconstruction flap from arm so over the moon about that. Spent 4 hours in recovery though waiting for my bed. I’m feeling good and doing well I think. Hoping to be home by the weekend instead if the 2 weeks they originally anticipated, I’m on free fluids now, still having a feed through the tube

Has anyone who had this have weird eyes afterwards? I’m finding it really hard to read and I’m probably overtired but one eye is droopy and my vision doesn’t feel quite right. Told the surgeon he wasn’t concerned. Expect some swelling involved

My nurse today reckons I won’t be driving for about 8 weeks because of the neck dissection and being able to do an emergency stop! Does that sound about right?

  • Well after my surgery (partial glossectomy)  the weird things were due to the meds.  The dementors were flying around everytime I shut my eyes!  My weakness was at the side of my mouth - nerves seemed damaged, it dropped and hence speech was not great.  All rectified by time.

But also you have to remember your face and neck is very much moved around and tilted etc so swelling and soreness maybe a factor and could be effecting your eyes.  Plus we are on Wednesday and your op was Monday.  Also you had two ops so to speak mouth and neck

I did not have feeding tube - but neck tube to take blood/fluids away.  It was this filling up that was monitored as to my day of discharge.

The driving I am not sure about as my disection was on central neck and called sentinal node biospy.  But was about 7 to 10 days before clips were out then wound was dressed twice weekly at my local clinic so 6 to 8 weeks sounds right.

But I am sure it will be all explained by Dr who sees you just prior to discharge.

    Take care
