Mouthwash help

Hi everyone Wave

Sorry I’ve not been on here for a bit – life’s been busy and my treatment has kept me on my toes Confused

I need a bit of wisdom from those who’ve been through this – my mouth currently feels like the Sahara Desert and every bite is a battle. I’m not using anything at the moment except the oromucosal spray , but I know about the good old salt + bicarbonate of soda rinse. Is that the best one to go for, or are there other mouthwashes or homemade mixes that actually work for dry mouth and sore relief?

Any tried-and-tested tips would be a lifesaver right now – thank you! Green heart

Ash

  • Try BioXtra mouthwash. It’s the one I use. It’s very soothing and made especially for dry mouth. Try one from Amazon and if it helps you should be able to get it on prescription. Some GP practices have been really obstructive issuing them so if you have problems come back for instructions on how to educate your doctor

  • PS just looked at your blog. Are you still in treatment? Then ask your team for Gelclair. It’s pretty good at helping those ulcers.
Sorry about the taste. Most of us take months to get any reasonable taste back. A few are lucky though and don’t suffer much. It’s a lottery.

  • Morning Ash, my husband is using XyliMelts, he uses one in the morning and one at night, tablets you place under the gum and they melt as you go along, they seem to help him, especially over night,as he was waking up dehydrated. He tried different mouthwashes, one he uses ,not as much anymore,Biotene. The melts however are not on prescription, sorry, but worse their money. Fellow wife  Mel.

  • Hi.

I'm day 1 of the 6 week "grind".

I've just read your part 6 blog. It's good.

If I'm allowed, I'd like to share this with my friends & family.

There's nothing like a bit of dry, dark humour to lift your mood.

    Thanks

  • Hi Civpop,

I had some luck with bioxtra and biotene- i also used xylimelts a lot as well.

I also used Difflam as a local anesthetic (i am not sure how effective this was in all honesty).
