Hi Everybody.
I was diagnosed with cancer at the base of my tongue 2 years ago, after receiving treatment I have been in remission since.
After a checkup appointment I've received a letter from the Maxillofacial Surgery Service with an appointment to see them. The second page has Urgent Suspected Cancer as the title.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or does anyone have any further information on what to expect etc.
Thanks.
Hi
After a checkup appointment
Who was the appointment with and what did they say? It’s strange you had no warning that they suspected something might be amiss
I would assume you’d get an explanation and have a scan arranged? Have you had any new symptoms?

Hi.
Appointment with a consultant in Maxoillofacial Surgery Service. Arrived in the post last week.
There's been no mention of a cancer recurrence possibility at my recent checkups until a month ago.
Only issue is the ulcer on the side of my tongue that never really healed but seemed to be getting a lot better recently.
So it was ENT who saw you last and has now referred you to Maxfac? If it’s a non healing ulcer then they are just being careful. I should imagine it will be biopsied. Fingers crossed all is well
I’m still amazed that the letter has come out if the blue with no explanation at your last appointment. Why don’t you ring your CNS to find out what’s happening.

The letter amazed me also!!
Thanks for your help.
Take care.
Hi Marillion. I have everything crossed for you that this does not turn out to be a recurrence. If the worst does happens they have caught it early. I have had 3 occurrences of jaw cancer over the years each time caught early and each time with successful outcomes. It is certainly a blow when you have another occurrence and have to go through more treatment but the outcome can still be positive and there is still a good quality of life to be had. However I do hope that this turns out to be a false alarm for you. Sending you positive thoughts.

Good evening, I'm like Dani and find it a bit confusing that you received a letter like this without any tests or scans. I'm also similar to Sophie, having had three operations. If you mentioned the ulcer not healing to them, then they might have picked up on that. Something like this does need checking out, as it's not healing, even though you say it's starting to get better. Hopefully, it is just an ulcer that has taken a while to heal and needs no further treatment. Fingers crossed for your next appointment, take care.
