Hi everyone
I have been to my GP today regarding a lump on my neck/ collarbone area. It has been there around 2 weeks. She did a check then told me that she was putting me onto the 2 week pathway and will be referred to the head and neck team at my local hospital. I had an urgent blood.test done today and am waiting for.an ultrasound scan to be done on my neck.
I had parotid gland cancer diagnosis in December last year and the surgery in February this year. The new lump is the same side as my surgery.
Has anyone else had parotid gland cancer that has progressed to thyroid cancer
Am terrified and dont think I can go through it again
Hi.
I can’t recall anybody describing that here. Perhaps it’s a question you could ask on the thyroid cancer forum.
Did your GP suggest what it might be? The thyroid lies under your chin over your voice box. Is that where the lump is?

Good evening Minimac, its so easy to think the cancer has returned but in a lot of cases the lumps that appear are nothing to worry about but they have to be checked out due to your history. Im surprised you are not still under the care of your consultant who did the surgery last year as they would normally see you within two weeks. I know its not easy but try not to worry, fingers crossed its something simple. Good luck with your results ,take care.
Chris.
Hi Minimac. The waiting for results is always excruciating and is the worst part. I had a different cancer to yours mine was jaw cancer but I went through something similar. After my first cancer in 2013 which was successfully treated I had another occurrence in 2019. I felt the same as you that I didn't think that I could go through it again. It was a hard time but it is amazing what inner strength you can muster up. I did go through another op and more radiotherapy and had another successful outcome.
If it does come down to another op although it is hard you will get through it. I have my fingers crossed that it does not come to that though.
I had another occurrence in 2022 and another op but was an old hand at it by then. Another successful outcome.
I am living a great life and am enjoying everyday so although an occurrence is difficult it can be successfully overcome.
Sending you positive thoughts.
