Vomiting while using a PEG

My husband's last peg feed was yesterday evening and he started vomiting this morning  (clear and then brown) this morning. He has fallen asleep now. He doesn't want me to ring 111 and he doesn't want to go to A&E

He is going to flush his peg later this morning.  I guess I will have to ring 111 if the vomiting continues.

Any other advice please?

  • Hi

He doesn't want me to ring 111 and he doesn't want to go to A&E

I think this may be your only option if it continues. If he settles down then contact his CNS first thing on Monday.
111 May at least give you some advice on what to feed him instead of ensures.

  • Thanks Dani. I realise my heading is misleading. His last peg feed was yesterday evening and he started vomiting this morning. I'm going to check the use by dates on the Fortisips.

  • Some patients can develop an intolerance to certain PEG feeds, oncology should be informed, if weight loss and vomiting issues are troublesome hospitalisation may be required.

  • Good evening sorry to hear about your husbands issues, sounds as if he has been through such a lot recently, i know how it feels to the cancer return as it happened to me twice after my first diagnoses, all to do with the head and neck. My last operation was in 2010 so hopefully  your husbands next surgery will be his last and they stop it from spreading. I have been PEG dependant since 2010 and the only times i vomit is if i take to much feed in a session or if i have a stomach bug/infection which happened to me twice last year so maybe its worth a visit to your GP or phone one of his team at the hospital. I found that Complan was easier to tolerate or just milk when i was vomiting. Wishing you and your husband all the best and good luck with his next operation. Take care.
