Lost 3 stone after neck dissection and secondary cancer diagnosis want to put weight back on any help, supplements I can take to help with this

  • Hi Len. Welcome.
Did you have Radiotherapy and how far out of treatment end are you?
Can you eat or are you PEG reliant?
Edit. I’ve just looked at your profile and see that you did have RT

  • Our bodies go into a sort of hypermetabolic state to heal from RT and I can say that I could eat anything for two years till I started to gain the little weight I lost.

High protein high calorie shakes are really good for putting weight on and there are plenty of recipes on the internet, a lot based on nut butters and protein powders.

  • Hi Len. Just have a look at those shakes. It’s good that you can eat. That’s half the battle

  • Hi Len. I lost 10k.g during radiotherapy and was looking downright skeletal for a while. I was not overweight to start with. I found that  drinking Sustagen or a similar drink supplement made with full cream milk helped. It did take me ages to get the weight back on and I never got it all back but am now stable and not losing weight. I ate everything full fat and had smaller more frequent meals as large ones were a bit hard to manage. I drank hot chocolate made with full fat milk. I tried to eat healthy meals and also ate desserts which were high calorie. You can get lots of calories in with smoothies. Google them and you will find some that suit you.

It may take a while so you have to be patient.
