Hi everyone, I'm currently in my post treatment for mouth cancer. I did Radiotherapy (6 weeks) and Chemotherapy (2 sessions). My doctor told me to do some workouts but didn't advice me to avoid any food that's why I reached 90 kg for the first time in my life. But I still tried losing weight by exercising and had a strict diet. I'm at 80 kg now. My question, does anyone of you have the same advice from the doctor to just basically eat everything you like? I'm a little worried that I did a strict diet without my doctor's approval. Thank you to everyone who will take time to reply.
Best regards,
John
Devil and the deep blue. I have such difficulty with quite a few foods that I think I’ll take my chances…but will keep a check on cholesterol.
You’re not going to have a stroke from atheroma overnight. So don’t worry too much but as you say keep an eye on the levels.

your description of cotton wool is spot on.
Chicken and turkey are still difficult for me but I put tomatoes and lettuce with everything and the moisture helps it to go down. I make spaghetti bolognaise with our own Mediterranean veg and venison mince. I do enjoy the odd steak but cut the fat off. I use plant based spread instead of butter. For fish I microwave salmon for a few minutes on defrost and it stays wonderfully soft. I still eat eggs. I make my own humus which is gorgeous. Cheese is the bugbear. I love cheese. I really ration that.

I wasn’t aware of the cholesterol thing or the effect of RT on the carotids.
I mentioned that to my oncologist just after treatment ended. I asked whether I should have a carotid scan and his reply was “My, you have done your homework….. just take statins”.

It’s so interesting to see what people can and cannot eat. For instance for me, all mince is off the table. No matter what I do, it’s just dry. I tried quorn And it was just as bad. However, I can eat M&S lasagne as it goes down well yet when I try to make it at home, I don’t get the same texture . I prefer veggie lasagna
I use the Lose It! app And have done for the past five years. I track my protein fats and calories. It was very helpful during treatment because I’d hand the app to my dietician so she could make changes to my diet. I tried to keep my protein at 66 g (dietitian suggestion) and above and my fats are at 70 g however most days my fats are around 50 or 60 sometimes even only 40.
I need to really spice it up and we make our own sweet chilli sauce because I go through so much of it .
Hi Lyn, thank you for your reply. I actually lost a lot of weight during my treatment. My weight went from 85kg to 73kg. Then I gained a lot of weight after the treatment. As per the BMI calculator, I'm "obese" at 90kg. I somehow believe that and it makes me worry what to do since my doctor doesn't want me to lose weight for 18 months after the treatment.
Thank you.
Hi Liz, I lost a lot weight too (from 85kg to 73kg). I just have a high appetite for food that I got to 90kg in 6 months. I'll try to have a balanced diet then.
Thank you.
Hi there, how long did it took you to gain 7 pounds?
Thank you.
I had gained weight before treatment so I had a cushion. I’m glad I did but then never lost it. Then after treatment finished and I was eating relatively normal again, I gained this weight. It took a few months. I still wear the same size clothes and look the same. BMI is normal and I’m not gaining anymore. I’m static!. I’m not sure whether resistance training has something to do with it
I’d just like to shift it

If you are resistance training the extra weight is muscle which weighs more than fat
