My partner just finished last Monday 30 sessions external.beam oral radiotherapy for tongue cancer. He was ok throughoutamd side effects not too bad, but today has terrible pain, ibuprofen 600mg not touching it. Any one have anything similar
Your husband has been lucky not to have bad side effects from his treatment so far but the effects of radiotherapy can ramp up for a while after treatment is finished. Has your husband been prescribed stronger pain meds over the course of his treatment? If so now is the time to start using them regularly. Most of us need stronger pain killers over the course of our radiotherapy treatment but they need to be taken by the clock to help with the pain. Include paracetamol in the regime as this helps a lot too. If your husband does not have anything stronger than ibuprofen then he needs an urgent appointment with his radiotherapy doctor to discuss.

Hi dub, the RT does continue to work for a couple of weeks after the last session. Like the others have said, he needs stronger painkillers you need to get in touch with his team so they can give him some. Good luck to him with his recovery, take care of him and yourself.

Definitely recommend paracetamol- a very underrated painkiller. Most of us get worse pain in the two weeks after Radiotherapy. As others have said, take pain meds regularly without fail, I was on paracetamol and Oramorph which helped enormously. Good luck to him, when the two weeks post treatment are over things will slowly start to get easier.
