My husband is finished with chemo and radiation for over a year, he’s having immounotherapy every 3 weeks, it’s keytruda. Now he has a couple bad bottom teeth and needs a full lower partial denture. So a couple has to be pulled. Anyone else have dental work after treatments and does it go ok. We will see his dr in a week but wanted someone’s personal opinion.

  • Hi ChrisB24 - I just completed chemo and radiation in late October and have several dental issues that need to be addressed too.  I had hoped to get started pulling teeth and getting dentures in January but my surgeon highly stressed that he did not think that the time was right due to on-going swelling of the tongue and the possibility of bone infection in the mouth.  My tongue rubs one of my teeth causing the tongue to hurt most of the time.

I was so disappointed.  However since January I had to have emergency dental work.  For some reason one of my front teeth developed a white spot and within a week a piece just chipped off.  I have found that several other teeth have developed these white spots/patches too.  I wonder if this is a byproduct of the radiation.  Anyway my emergency dental work came off without a hitch however my mouth was sore for days due to the limited room in there now.

I'm still anxious about improving my dental situation.  Found out yesterday that I need to have another operation on the tongue so I imagine this will push back any dental for awhile.

Best of luck to you and your husband.  Let us know how things go with the doc.

  • Did you go to special dentist or your regular dentist?
