Hello! Im waiting for appointment now, but still very worried. I have daily earache, kinda shooting for 1-2 seconds multiple times (today I noticed 4 or 5 since 6 am; its 16 pm in my timezone now). What was your cancerous ear pain in oral cancer? Is it stable, persistent or come and go for a bit seconds? Ofc, I know every person is unique...

  • In my case I did not have any pain at all.  Just a lump that did not go away.

This waiting period is absolute hell, but hold onto the fact that the vast majority of people on the 2 week wait don't actually end up with a cancer diagnosis.

  • I also had severe ear ache in my left ear. Pulsing at times a bit like you describe. That was one of the things that pushed me to go to my GP. Also, I also had a sore throat but only on the left side which I thought was weird. I had the ear cleared of wax and no change. Then I had a scan followed quickly by a biopsy and then the results shows a T2N1M0 left tonsil. Around week three of radio it all appeared to go away - or at least it was less important than other stuff going on. After that I was fine - in the ear department. I'm now six months post treatment and my ear is still normal. I've not had a doctor explain this to me in detail but I have a feeling it was a coincidence in my case. The main thing was that it helped speed up my diagnosis and subsequent treatment.

The wait can be difficult. Your imagination goes overboard. All the tests are done for that reason and a lot of people find that they don't have cancer. I'm pretty sure there are many other problems that can present with the same descriptions that are not cancer. Hoping that you are OK and that the wait will be over quickly.

  • Hi! I occasionally forgot to answer(

Was your earache/discomfort constant or it were attacks and good time in between?

I had nasopharyngeal endoscopy near 20 days ago, doctor found only mild benign bilateral hyperplasia of palate tonsils. But I still have all symptoms from my profile story since 16-17 of February this year...

  • It came and went. In between it was OK but the peaks, even though short, were really uncomfortable.

  • Oh-oh... How long it lasts (I mean pain) before you were diagnosed? Did you have any endoscopy or only CT scanning?

  • Hi there, the pain "events" lasted from about 3 seconds to maybe 20 seconds. I had this plus a sore throat for about two weeks before I went to see my GP, and she had me referred and in for an MRI and diagnosis within two weeks after that. During the referral I had a nasoendoscopy and also had ear wax removed plus a hearing test. After that nothing more was done about my ear. A few weeks later the pain had gone.

  • Did they see something cancerous while nasoendoscopy or only while MRI? So the pain itself went away while radiotherapy or by its own, before treatment?

My pain along with oral symptoms lasts for 2 months, doctor didn't say I need additional special scanning such as ultrasound, CT or MRI. Im waiting for a dentist now.
