Hi everyone

Well I'm writing this from a very nice ward in hospital. Came in at 7am this morning for first part of my treatment neck dissection to remove lymph nodes. Was absolutely petrified but surgeon talked through things really well.

3 hours later up on ward eating ham sandwich and yoghurt which really surprised me. So far no pain just feeling abit stiff turning my head and have a drain collecting fluids . In all honesty I'm actually amazed at how I'm feeling. I do have a pretty impressive scar but who cares I'm still here and it will fad .

I've been able to eat my supper and walk to toilet etc which I really wasn't expecting to be able to do.

Thank you to all the wonderful people on here for your support in getting me this far, you are amazing people.Happy to answer any questions if anyone else is facing this.

  • Great news.  On both my dissections I was only in overnight as I barely drained any fluid which seems to be the criteria for discharge.

You're better at home in most situations.  Fingers crossed you get let out today.

  • That’s good. I had a cocktail of paracetamol, ibuprofen, gabapentin and, when that wasn’t cutting it, codeine.  The codeine was the game changer.  If they give that to you, you will also need a supply of movicol/laxido so you don’t block solid.

  • Good evening Lindielou, well done in your recovery, and even better that you are eating, they certainly are impressive scars but in about a year it will not be that visible as it blend in with the creases in our skin, my scar is not noticeable to others unless they are close up. Its great you are mobile as i had to wait a few days as i was still attached to drains etc, all the best for your continued recovery.

  • Thank you for your reply. Can't believe I'm home already there wasn't much in my drain. Couldn't get comfy in my bed so ended up on the sofa as it reclines and was lovely and comfy so that's where I stayed and managed to get some much needed sleep.

  • Sorry I only just saw this! glad everything we so smoothly x

  • Well now 6 days post op and feeling really well. Off all painkillers and scar looks like its healing well. Still sleeping on recliner sofa as I feel more comfortable. All set for surgery on Wednesday.

  • So pleased everything is going well Linielou, wishing you all the best for Wednesday, keep up the positive vibes.
