I've been feeding my husband up before he starts rad/chemo. Any idea what sort of weight loss there maybe during and after treatment.
It varies drastically. I know one lady who lost 50kg. I didn’t lose any during treatment. I had a dragon if a dietician who weighed me weekly and threatened me with hospitalisation if I lost more than 5% ( I weighed 55kg) I didn’t fight to eat once swallowing was too painful I tube fed on Fortisips
I did lose 5kg after treatment end.

Thanks, it's the fear of the unknown I think.
Hi alike Dani I had a very good dietician who watched me like a hawk I got weighed weekly , when I couldn’t swallow I had ng tube fitted which I had already consented to. I did loose a kg or 2 during treatment and a few more in the first weeks of recovery. In total around 6 kg but 3 weeks after treatment I could swallow ensures and I maintained my weight for 15 months our metabolism seems to change I could eat twice the normal amount if calories (2500 );and not put any weight in after 15 months I had to stop the chocolate cream eclair and watch what I ate. I am the same weight now 7 years later still 60 kg which I was when treatment started.
It’s not easy during treatment or recovery but I had a mindset that food was fuel and I knew that sufficient nutrition and hydration was the key to making a good recovery.

Hi
I lost over 16 kg duringand after treatment . The dieticians went into full on nagging mode! Me, I couldn’t see the problem. I felt fine. Suffice it to say I was told very firmly that it was anything but fine, and we did between us manage to stabilise it. It has been a bit of a struggle to put much back on. It will, I am sure, go back on eventually and I may get back to a stage where there is room for just one, as opposed to two of me in my pre treatment wardrobe …but I’m not holding my breath. To be honest I’m quite enjoying a form I’d have killed for in my 20s. Joking aside, the weight loss was not ideal and I should have taken it more seriously earlier…..and done as you are doing for your husband and put on some weight before starting out.
I wish him well for his treatment.

Unfortunately I was not monitored for weight loss during radiotherapy and ended up losing 10k.g. I had to work it out myself how to put the weight back on as it would seem that dieticians were short on the ground where I lived. It took me a year to get the weight back on and I now am stable and have a good BMI. It sounds as though in your neck of the woods that your husband will be more closely monitored so that is really good. I still weigh myself regularly to make sure that I don't slip back.
