How long did it take you to feel better once treatment was over. My husband returned to work this week. He’s been tired. His taste is slowly coming back It comes and goes. One bite is good, secondtinks. Just wondering when will he feel better as far as fatigue, sadness goes. He really wants his taste fully back. I hate this for him
Hi Markmac
Thing should really start to improve around 2-3 months post treatment mark...fatigue is common place for most of us but diminishes with time ....we have been hit hard physically and mentally so having low days now and again is pretty normal ...again this should improve with time...
Taste and appetite?...20 months post treatment and my taste is about 90%..enjoying my food...appetite is good....not perfect....can now enjoy most things....especially my fav....curries...Jalfrezi....Madras...Balti....a no-no 4 months ago....
Sadness ?...part and parcel of the harsh treatment and cancer....PTSD?...I still have flashbacks about the treatment....I would suspect most of us do...I play golf, swim, spend time in the garden and go on sunshine breaks to lift my spirits
....takes my mind off the bad things and gives me something positive to focus on.....getting a decent night's sleep is helpful
Take care
Peter
Hi Markmac,I worked all through treatment except last week and first week of recovery and went back to work second week of recovery.I am 15 months post treatment And I still have fatigue after light workouts,It like I am weaker for a couple days and for the sadness that like finally seemed to have gone away for good at the end of December 2024.I still get tired easier some days then others. For the bright spot, Every Month does get better even through it seems sometimes I take a step forward and two steps back. Some days I felt like just giving up especially in the beginning of my fatigue but I also realized that I just Poisoned my Body extremely bad and that it will take time to heal. For months I slept 10 plus hour a night and napped on everyday off and I had to stop doing any real work on my time off of work besides cleaning house every week. For me I think rest is great but to much rest can make you physically weaker.I guess I should mention that I do eat very healthy and have for many years and I am not sure if that has made any difference.I read a post some time back someone said after four years post treatment at 67 He finally felt good enough that he was thinking of getting a part time job.I know that may seem like along time but you know what he feels good.
Hello there, I guess your husband is not doing too bad by the looks of it, my husband is now 8wks past treatment, he's is not even thinking going back to work, his fatigue is still very much controlling his days,in and out of sleep, still not able to eat solid food, just through PEG, also taking soft food orally is improving, it seems your hubby is going the right direction. All the best for the future for you guys x
