Treatment end almost in sight

Hi guys,

Thought I’d share an update from my original thread back in Jan. Hit my first milestone this week with the completion of 5 weeks chemotherapy and week five of six radiotherapy. The cancer teams in the hospital have been amazing, but I’m feeling  all the side effects from both treatments. Kept my MDT team up to date with issues and they have been brilliant. Nausea is a real issue and the constant horrible taste and mucus build up is a bit grim but am trying all the suggestions that you guys have been sharing.  Lack of appetite has had a knock on effect with my weight so now on protein shakes/yogurts and porridge ( really missing proper food).

thanks again for your advice, encouragement it’s really been of help and gave me that boost when I’ve needed it.

  • Hi Jay. Congratulations the end is in sight. You sound as though you are coping really well as the treatment is hard. Those horrible side effects will gradually improve once treatment is finished but you just can't rush things. Sending you my very best wishes.

    Hi Jay

Almost there, well done, ask your team about different anti-emetics for nausea if the ones that you are using aren't effective .... Side effects usually intensify after the end of treatment.....then gradually improve make sure you have plenty of meds.

You should be back on solid food in a few weeks, appetite and taste will return in time.

    Take care

  • Hi Jay. Well done  just keep doing what you’re doing. Remember the first few weeks of recovery treatment continues to work so make sure you’ve meds in and take it one day at a time.

  • Hi Jay, one more week then you're on the road to recovery. Get as much rest as you need and try and get as much nourishment and water as you can, give your body the time it needs to heal itself. We're all here to help, with any questions you have.

  • Hi Lyn,

  • Hi Hazel,

thank you for messaging, I really appreciate it.  I’ve two oncology appointments with my doctor ( this Thursday and the next)  so I will definitely make sure I have plenty of pain relief for when the treatment ends also. The dietitian sent through repeat prescriptions for those nutritional supplements too.

  • Hi Peter,

thank you for your message and advice, I really appreciate it.  I will def make sure I have plenty of pain relief for when the treatment ends.  Looking forward to eating solid food eventually too.

  • Well done Jay, you're nearly through it. The next month or so may be a bit grim but then you should start feeling a lot better. Lots of rest until then, a little daily walk if you can manage it, keep hydrated. Time to start thinking about a special summer holiday - ?

    Sending love & solidarity
