Hi all or as I put it my extended family

I'm having RIG fitted this Monday and was just asking as anyone experienced any difficulties with the RIG regarding feeding, sleeping with and cleaning etc?....I was hoping it was going to be a PEG but it was their decision for me to have a RIG.

Best wishes to all

Dave

  • Hi Dave, I had a RIG fitted, it was just one overnight in hospital just to make sure everything was ok. You will be shown how to use it, and how to keep it clean, I had no problem sleeping with it, although I did sleep sitting up while overnight feeding. If you have difficultly eating during your treatment, you will be so pleased you have got it, I know I was, it was my lifesaver.

  • Hi Dave

Had a PEG ....used it overnight...bought a V-shaped pillow to help with feeding/sleeping....worked a treat

  • Hello Dave

I too had a RIG fitted. I was pretty much knocked out for the actual procedure. Like Ray, kept in overnight and shown how to use and keep it clean.  I didn’t use it for overnight feeding, I fed manually as it were during the day.   I had no difficulty sleeping on my side with it. You might want to tape it to stop it pulling when sleeping and during the day to avoid it flopping around.  I tucked mine under a soft bra….but I’m guessing that wouldn’t be much of a solution solution for you…..!

Hated the thing initially and was reluctant to have one fitted…..but it saved my life.  Wouldn’t have got through without it.  I was totally reliant on it for food and hydration.  Didn’t have any problems with it .

    All the best

  • Hi Liz

Thank you sooo much for that info , me and my partner Melanie did laugh at the part about the bra... She said I could borrow her bra lolol.

On a serious note I really appreciate all the info and tips you give me along with all the other lovely people on this site.

Take care Liz and thank you once again x

  • A little plastic alligator clip with hole drilled in it....attach a piece of cord ....secure the cord to the dangly bit of the feeding tube....then you can use the clip to secure it to clothing....or a neck chain in the shower or bath....worked for me
