Is this the case for all

  • For me it was just to place my NG tube. I needed one over New Year and there were no dieticians on call so they kept me in to rehydrate me. If I had waited three days I would have been seen as an outpatient.

  • No.. it's been said before, but everyone reacts differently to the treatment.. all you can do is take all the precautions that you can.. get your PEG in place, keep on top of your oral hygiene, take your meds by the clock. moisturise.. ask about pump feeds as soon as/if you start struggling to swallow.. It's not an easy journey, but your team are there to get you through this.. trust in them and let them know how you are coping.

  • 3 nights but as I’ve explained it was waiting  for a dietician to place my NG. I’m in wales.
I had two NGs. I vomited one up and had to have it replaced.
If you are offered a PEG take that.
    I didn’t have a choice.

Yes...Without the PEG I would have been in even more serious trouble...I could not tolerate Ensure 2cal...  orally or via PEG....constantly vomiting....rapidly lost weight and subsequently admitted to ward straight after my final radioT session...my feed was changed to Jevity brand which I could tolerate...weight stabilised ....I was discharged after a 12 day stay in the cancer ward at Dundee Ninewells...strangely my dietitian put me back on Ensure after PEG removal...taken for a short period as a supplement to solid food....glad to see the back of it.

While in the ward other longer term patients informed me that I was not the only one admitted with Ensure intolerance.
