Hello everyone, my husband's appearance has changed so much after treatment. Is is normal. I find it hard to adapt. Looking at pictures we only took a few months ago on a trip away, i am asking myself where is this man? Now he looks so much older and fragile. Will he get some of his old looks back?

  • Hi

    Welcome to our little community.
What treatment did your husband have? It reads like he is not long out of it. If you put some details in your profile it would help us help you with the right answer.
I am six years clear. It was a good six months before I started looking more like my old self and you couldn’t tell by a year.
RT and CRT are a huge assault on the system and I must say I looked pretty haggard for a while.
Don’t worry. Your man will be back

  • My husband had head and neck cancer treatment, for throat cancer, 2rounds of chemo 30rounds of radio, he's now 5wks in recovery,we new about side effects, but for him to change in looks so much is hard to take.

  • Hi, MRSMM, he still in very early days of his recovery, and has Dani said, the treatment certainly does knock us for six, which takes a long time to come back from. However, over time he will recover.

  • Is it down to weight loss do you think?

  • Thank you guys, I will keep this in mind, good thing that he hasn't lost his sense of humour lol. Waiting now for his first follow up CT result to come back.

  • He did loose 15+kg in a matter of 3weeks, pretty much in the last 3wks of treatment, when side effects start kicking in aswell

  • Did he have a peg

  • but for him to change in looks so much is hard to take.

Yes. It’s like watching your partner age ten years. I promise he will be back.

Not entirely. I didn’t lose much But still looked wiped out and exhausted.
