Tigger63 Hi again
I've copy/pasted your post in New to the Community
Perhaps you could pop it into your profile? It would help others enormously to give you a proper answer
I had surgery on December 10, 2024, for tongue cancer on the left side. The surgeon took 3/4 of the left side of the tongue out. There was cancer found in 3 of the 42 of the lymph nodes. I am scared about radiation therapy side effects. Looking for other people that have tongue cancer to help me with my journey.

Can you help, now we know little more about Tigger. It seems a bit like your cancer

I can add that you could join The Mouth Cancer Foundation. They have a weekly online support group on Mondays
It's very helpful. They have a good FB group too with lots of lively discussion

Ok @Tigger63
You’ve already been through huge trauma & survived, and if you are anything close to where I was 4 years ago it’s the Shoukd I/Shouldn’t I ? And you’ll be reading all the horror stories about the experience and side effects of going through Radiotherapy.
My MDT we’re on the fence and so it was “up to me”, but my second opinion recommended that I go ahead - based on the tumour histology and the fact that it had crossed the mid line. My lymph nodes were clear.
Once my decision was made, I felt far happier and more determined.
Dani has mentioned a couple of FB groups and I’d really recommend that you engage as most of them will have gone through Radiotherapy.
I won’t say that it’s not tough - especially as you will be well on your way to eating sensibly again.
Radiotherapy WILL put that back, but it wouldn’t be recommended if they didn’t think it was needed The angst of recurrence is bad enough as it is. I wanted to make sure that I had done everything in my power to get through it.
It’s NOT fun and you WILL need help (as I’m sure you know already). However, you’ll find plenty of support in various forums and I can send you a Radiotherapy document where I’ve tried to collate hints and tips to make life that little bit easier.
Happy to chat - Stephanie
