Has anyone noticed their blood pressure is very low after RT? Mine has dropped dramatically since finishing RT

  • Hi SueEssex, my blood pressure was too low to have my last chemo day. I think it happens a lot, let your team know at your next checkup, or if you are worried give them a call.

  • I had bouts of low blood pressure to start with. I think it’s quite common. Just be careful getting up from a sitting position. There are rare occurrences of it getting really problematic. It’s caused by damage to the pressure receptors in the carotid arteries.

  • I had low blood pressure anyway, and still do. It's not unhealthy, as long as it's not *too* low, but I do get dizzy if I stand up quickly. A useful tip I was given is to clench your glutes (bum) a you stand up as it helps the blood pressure to catch up

  • Hi Sue

Yes had low blood pressure a couple of times but it soon stabilised, also ended up with AF, not sure if it was the chemo.... Apixaban meds for life now

I met a chap in RT who had to take a break from treatment after a heart event. He was told that cisplatin is indeed cardiotoxic and  one of the most common manifestations is AF
