It's taken 6 months, 2 teeth removed & my tonsils out to get to this point but my final diagnosis is T1 N0 MO p16 negative, which is the best outcome under the circumstances, has been caught in the very early stages (thankfully)

Tomorrow I'm being admitted for 3 days n 2 nights to have my feeding tube put in & then start my radiotherapy on the Monday,

I won't lie, I am scared whitless

  • I won't lie, I am scared whitless

It is really frightening especially as you have no control over what’s happening. The treatment is a real challenge but a day at a time it’s doable. Forums like this are self selecting which is why you get so many difficult journeys posted. Remember that most people get through and make a good recovery. They just don’t post here.
You won’t need chemotherapy which is a bonus.

  • Hi Loopyliz

Treatment is very challenging, no easy way to describe it, I hope you manage to go through it with minimal side effects....it's OK to be scared...most of us were...

    Take care

  • keep on top of your oral hygiene, and practice your jaw exercises while you're at it , and keep eating and drinking for as long as you can.. tell your team how you are coping each day.. they are not mind readers, so keep them informed.. take your meds, and tell your team when you feel the need to increase.. fingers crossed that it won't be too challenging.. there is light at the end of the tunnel.. and remember there is always someone here to help you through it.. I was always asking questions and asking for advice.Thumbsup

  • It's funny because I'm not much of a cryer & soon as I read "we have your back" I burst into tears like a numpty lol but thank you, I really appreciate that xx

  • Good luck for tomorrow Loopyliz, please try not to be frightened as you will be in good hands as many of us can vouch for. Remember we are all different and recovery and side effects differ from person to person but whatever route we take the cure rates are very good and even better as they have caught it early. Im pleased they are fitting a feeding tube in case its needed further into your radiotherapy. Wishing you all the best, take care.

  • Hi,

Nothing to add to what has already been said by way of advice.  I had a relatively easy ride with great results in the end - I hope you do as well.  We are here when you need us, just shout!

  • Good luck with it all. Let us know how you are going xxx

  • I am sitting in the Beatson cafe in Glasgow at the moment, having just had my 4th radiotherapy.

If it helps any, I have found the staff and radiographers to be exceptionally friendly, talking me through the process and having a good laugh. I made the mistake of wearing my good luck socks for my 1st session on Monday and, having spotted these, the radiographers have insisted on new, funny socks every day. It’s going to cost me a small fortune after 6 weeks of this.

The staff have made it clear that I should ask them if I have any questions and not to ignore and later worry. For many people I would imagine this is a big help.

    Best of luck
