Hi everyone,

Five days on from first chemo and I think side effects have kicked in unless it's the RT ?

since chemo I've been  constipated until this morning after been given Laxido prescription couple of days ago.

Had really dark sloppy poop (sorry)

Has anyone else had same thing on cisplatin? Some taste changes also and very fatigued.

Sorry about the content but no other way I could approach the subject !

    Hi Mark

Cisplatin does cause constipation in many, Laxido will be your 'friend' for some time....especially if morphine is needed during treatment....Laxido softens stools so they will be a bit on the soft side.

  • The bad news is that cisplatin, antisickness meds such as ondansetron and steroids can all cause constipation

    Peter is right.
Laxido will be with you til the end especially as opiates stop you bowel moving too

  • Hi mark. We’ve all been there so no need to apologise. You’ll find a balance with the laxido  I got away with one sachet a day. Once pain ramps up you’ll be on opiates and if you’re not eating fresh foods they become even more vital. As you don’t want compacted poo. Remember it’s not forever you’ll get there.

  • Hi Hazel,

Was just getting concerned over the colour of my poop ,worried incase I have a problem in my bowels , practitioner did tell me the chemo can cause the tarry stools .but feel ok otherwise just fatigued,no temperature to worry about.

Just another anxiety,I'm sure it's just the continued side effects of the chemo .

  • Hi Mark

I wouldn’t worry about it. As for fatigue best advise is listen to your body you’ll learn that fatigue can’t be fought against. I became the queen of the Power Nap for months. 20 mins in bed did wonders.

Chemo attacks fast dividing cells ( which is what cancer cells are) u fortunately the body has fast dividing cells elsewhere. Notably the gut ( whee chemo can cause the lining to bleed) and blood cells where you can get low blood counts.

  • It’s a pity we don’t get told all this. Never mind. These pages are a mine of information .
