Hi Cazza2190 , as Beesuit said, I had stage 4 HNC (tumours growing on both lungs) and was given <12 months as well. I underwent a 2-year course of Pembrolizumab. I tolerated it very well, and my scans show that I've had a complete radiological response. What I think that means is that the tumours have gone or are too small to be concerned about, but I'll be monitored into the near future for when I assume they will reappear. But I've been very lucky.
If your husband has been offered immunotherapy, I think it's definitely worth giving a go. For it to have an effect, he would need to have the right biomarkers, and your oncologist will test for those. Immunotherapy can be a game changer. *But* some people do not tolerate it well, and it can cause severe immune responses as well, but he will be monitored closed for them.
I wish you are your husband all the best for the future. If you want more information, I'm always happy to help. My blog might also help as well... https://ansmackay.wixsite.com/uclgeography/post/immunotherapy-the-revolution-in-cancer-treatment
