Hi again

I’m currently in hospital after having a RIG fitted yesterday and I’ve never had so much pain in my life. I’m meant to be going home today but it hurts my stomach to move or walk, I’m so fed up, did anyone else suffer this much with the fitting?

  • Thank god for family eh? Your son and daughter have done well sorting out stuff that you can’t at the mo. Life is harder being ill when you lead an active life. When I mentioned walking, I’m happy to do 10,000 steps a day so to hear that you do a small 60 mile walk has made my feet ache thinking about it! Well done you for raising money for charity too.
I’ve had such a lazy weekend what you can’t do during the week as with hospital appointments it seems like you’re forever on the go and I even forget medicines and food when waiting so long with RT machines down.

Oh well,  as my old dad would say, another day another dollar and I say another day closer to the end of RT and a bag of crisps and glass of wine!

  • i been lazy since this all started i can hardly move with the rig also now am hooked up to the slow release pump feeds 10 hrs now i dont like doing it thro the night as i have to have 2 bottles so have to disturb my sleep to change the bottle so i do 1 bottle over 5 hrs in the mornings then 2nd bottle bout 7 so its finished by midnight then i get un disturbed sleep so spend a lot of the day and evening on the pump and yes your last week of r t is almost upon us and this time next week it will be my turn starting my last week and being that step closer to a bag of crisp i cant bloody wait either lol xx

  • How many bottles a day do you take? I’ve been told to take 5 when I was partially eating and to be honest I can only manage 4. Hazel and dani both used night feeds which I might find out about  on Wednesday. I’m in so much pain with my mouth that even water and milk are hard to drink. This has really started to get hard these last few days and the thought of not being able to have any solids however small didn’t occur although I should have guessed with the rig! I was quietly confident last week that I’d be ok this last week but I do t know how I am gonna cope with this constant pain.
I’ve come up to bed as I can’t concentrate on anything and aim to have an early night. How’s your memory been and can you concentrate ok as this is probably another side effect of RT. Good luck next week, we can do this xx

You will get through the last week and into recovery.  The next few weeks are really tough and we all face our demons at this stage.  7 months on and my mind has blanked the torture of those weeks, fortunately.  Just hunker down and press on.  You have done amazingly well so far.

As to the pain, make sure you tell your team about it and take all the painkillers they give you.  None are going to hurt you and they will make life a little more comfortable.

Don't wait until your routine appointments if you are in trouble.  Tell the radiology team tomorrow before your treatment and they will get the dietitians onto you hopefully at the end of your session.

Focus on the life ahead.  For almost all of us it is a good quality of life we recover to.  Maybe different to what we were used to in terms of eating, but still full of life and enjoyment.

  • not sure if u can see the pic and yes its the over night feed but instead of disturbing my sleep to change the bottle i do 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening then sleep with out having to wake up to change the bottle xx good luck with the start of your final week tomoz xxx

  • I had mine on the 4th sept. Belly’s still like a balloon and as tight as a base drum. Very painful still and really uncomfortable. Pain on scale of 8/10 constantly with paracetamol

  • I’m 11 days on And still very swollen and painful

  • Thanks Peter I will have a word with the RT team tomorrow. Because they are always so busy and behind schedule I don’t really like speaking to them but if they are able to arrange for me to see a member of the team that would be great. It’s all these tips I am so grateful for.
