Hey all,

just wondering if anyone has tried Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy post treatment to alleviate side effects like dry mouth or ulcers?

if so, how many sessions did you have and did it make an improvement?

cheers!

Garry

  • I haven't because my dry mouth isn't severe. I chew gum and I had a few sessions of acupuncture. My salivary function has recovered well. Ulcers took some time to heal but weren't particularly painful. There is plenty in the literature that indicates it can be useful especially where other treatments have failed. You need 30 sessions (over 6 weeks) of HBOT at 243 kPa for 90 minutes daily for five days per week.

If your insurance will pay for it , it surely must be worth trying. Do run it past your ENT/Oncologist in case there are possible complications.

Do let us know what you decide

  • Thanks. Early days as have just started looking at it and - to be honest - probably too early overall as I’m only 7 weeks post treatment.

Seeing my ENT consultant next week so will ask them their thoughts too.

    cheers!

  • The thing is that it appears to help no matter when you try it ....years later so maybe it's worth seeing how you heal naturally. Not many of us have severe problems. Let us know what your oncologist advises.
