Hi Everyone
I have now been diagnosed with the above. As the primary site is being rather illusive to the doctors, I'm having an op/procedure to try and discover more.
The procedure is a robotic tongue mucosectomy. I was hoping that someone may have had this done already and can answer a few questions?
What is the recovery time? Is it particularly uncomfortable afterwards? Are there any eating or drinking problems?
If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated!
So here I am, still in hospital, 3 days post op.
I have to say it has been fairly unpleasant, pain has been much more than I expected. The biggest problem by far is my numb tongue and the massive difficulty in eating and drinking. I'm trying as hard as I can to avoid having a tube fitted but I'm not sure if I can win that particular battle.
I was very sick (vomiting) the first night as I think my stomach was filled with blood from the op.
The various painkillers don't seem to take too much discomfort away so it'll be another conversation with the doctors in the morning.
I'm just hoping for soon relief soon. Would be nice to a full night's rest!!

Hi. If your team is considering radiotherapy I’d go for that tube. Get it fitted and settled well before treatment starts.
What pain killers are you getting?

First of all I just want to say well done and you’re on your way to recovery. Not sure if you’ve had the same but I had base of tongue tumour removed and lumpth nodes removed from neck! This was back in November and I’m now back at work . My advice to you is just be patient! I know that’s not what you want to hear but it will get better. Yes my tongue was swollen but it gets better just rest up and you will get there. Make sure they show you tongue exercises. Hope this helps a little bit
