swallowing such an issue

  • Hi we are all different I personally  had my feeding tube out it was a ng tube not a peg in tummy end if week 3 inwas  drinking orally the ensure high calorie drinks  to maintain weight. I aimed for 2500 calories every day. But i do know if many who take much longer. Are you seeing dieticians and have they checked yiur swallow. In still do the  swallow and jaw exercises daily have done for over 5.5 years they do help are you doing yours ?

I was still in pain killers at the 3 month stage and introduced foods gradually from week 3 starting with poached eggs , crumpets tinned peaches macaroni and cheese  Think nursery foods, my blog below might help

  • Hi   So sorry you are still having trouble. We are all different and this journey is a plod to health, steps forward and steps back.
I can understand how you might hate soup so time to try other soft foods.
Is swallowing painful or just difficult?
Speech and language can help with exercises for swallowing but if you’re in pain then you need to review your analgesia.
Things to try in no particular order are Ready Brek made with full fat milk and cream added. Ice cream. Supermarket mousses and trifles. Mashed banana. Tinned peaches. Poached eggs. Biscuits dunked in warm tea.
Im sure others will come up with more.
You will get there. You can’t hurry it. Do t be disappointed with setbacks.
    Best wishes

    Hi Rick

T2N1M0 tonsil cancer diagnosed Feb 2023....finished Chemoradio June 2023...

August before I was able to eat very small meals, September brought major improvements and removal of PEG tube...went to Tenerife in October/November....still not 100% by any means but can now eat chippy food and mild curries....takes time but things do improve.
