My husband had surgery today. They suspected that the primary was in his left tonsil residual tissue (had his tonsils out as a child). He is recovery and just seen his surgeon. He now suspects cancer is in base of tongue so has done biopsy’s of his tongue. I’m obviously stepping away from google. I had got my head around it being in the tonsil and now they think it is in the base of that tongue. Is this harder to treat? It is HPV + Thanks once again

There is tonsil tissue at the base of the tongue which is why HPV cancer appears here as well as in the tonsils at the back of your throat. The treatment options are the same. Surgery Chemotherapy Radiotherapy and results are just as good.
It's what I finished treatment for five years ago.

Mine too was in the tonsil tissue at the base of my tongue as well as my right tonsil (had both tonsils removed whilst trying to diagnose). Was told the chemo/radiotherapy treatment results are very good (90% cure rate) and that certainly seems to be borne out on here...
Hi As Dani says there’s tonsil tissue at the base of the tongue so chances are it’s HPV treatment is just the same. Yes yiuve got your own dr googles on here so keep away from the other one. We will all help you navigate through it.

Hi Worrylo. It’s exactly what I had, surgeon removed both tonsils ( it was in my left tonsil), same time he removed some tissue from base of tongue. Scan revealed there was some left under where the left tonsil had been. I had a second operation with more base of tongue removed. Scan showed my surgeon had removed it all, and didn’t need any radiotherapy chemotherapy. So I can’t advise on that treatment. I’m now in my third year and fingers crossed doing well. Please stay off Google, as people on here, that’s what I did and their advice was a godsend x
Hi,
That sounds very similar to my initial journey. Not knowing for sure can be a challenge, but wherever it is there is a really good chance of very successful treatment. Let us hope the find the primary and do what is necessary. Have a look at my profile for a cancer journey that is complex, but hopefully will reassure you.
Hi Worrylo, Sorry to hear about your husband however, I too, had a tonsil cancer which included the base of my tongue and was treated with chemo and radiotherapy but no surgery 2 1/2 years ago. You are right to keep off Google as you should get all the help and advice you will need from this forum and your husband’s MDT.
Wishing him all the best with his treatment.
