Blocked inner ear and Flying advice

Hi All

I'm after advice please. I know there must be someone on the forum who has probably experienced my query. I think i just spent 5 minutes thinking about what the subject header should be.

Anyway, well past post treatment for Nasopharynx and all ok (ish). My inner ear is full and will not unblock as a result of radiotherapy. Hearing aids booked in. My ear feels under a great deal of pressure and it may well one day unblock. Consultant doesn't want to introduce grommets as he reckons it will just lead to a manky infected ear. I trust him, he's saved my life already and talks sense. My question.. i'm nearly there, Has anyone else got the same thing and gone on an airplane? I don't want to put my eardrum under more pressure (it is literally sucking itself inwards). If it bursts on the way to holiday that's just game over as far as having a good holiday goes. I've not even looked in to insurance yet.

Love as always

Alex

  • Hi Alex. I’ve had a blocked ear and no way would I fly. If grommets have been mentioned it’s middle ear, by the way

  • Hi Alex.  I was as deaf as a post for a few months but all cleared eventually. My consultant (Marsden) said it would.  I don’t think it’s a good idea to fly just yet maybe.  I wouldn’t have.  All the best. Lizzie x

  • Good evening Alex, i would personally avoid flying as it could make matters worse, and that's the last thing you need after getting this far plus it would ruin your holiday and be expensive if treatment is needed should anything go wrong. Good luck

  • Thanks team

Centreparcs now booked for half term holidays. I didn't fancy a blown eardrum at the all inclusive where i can't taste or drink alcohol Slight smile

I remember thinking deep into the worse moments of treatment that if i came out the other side i'd take the family to Costa Rica, for now an overpriced lodge in Warminster will suffice.

Costa Rica is beautiful. Wonderful scenery. I spent one Christmas there hiking …. hence the title of the blog.
Save it for when you are better

  • Costa Rica is amazing.  I can't wait until I can go back (sorry!!).  Centre Parcs Longleat is in a beautiful setting and there are some truly exotic animals just down the road from there.  Let me know if you want some recommendations for eating out in the area.  It is honestly not worth eating out in the Parc - I've heard the horror stories from my kids when the worked there!  I hope you enjoy my neck of the woods.
