Afternoon Everyone , my hubby had surgery for mandibular cancer in May last year and completed rt in September. To be honest he's team haven't been the best and he's feeling very negative about the whole experience. He's finally seen the consultant on Monday and they have booked him some scans for this Saturday which is great. My question to everyone is how long does it take to get the results from Scans as this would be a big help if he gets them quick to hopefully boost he's mood
Are you talking about a PET/CT?
Scans are usually available to the referring clinician in a matter of days but they are discussed at MDT meetings usually before notifying the patient. I would allow a week, maybe two.
Drop a line to his CNS. They will likely tell you.

PS.
The caveat, of course, is that Covid backlog has created delays.

Hi Dani , thank you and i will try contacting he's team after 2 weeks but to be honest they have been awful and contact has been dire whether that's because he's under 3 different hospitals i dont know but trying to speak to he's nurse has been the worse experience for us and been left in the dark for most of he's journey.
So sorry Bridget. That’s awful. It happens if you are split between not only hospitals but sometimes trusts. When I had my PET results I was fully expecting to be moved to ENT nearer home and I had a speech as to why I shouldn’t already prepared but bless them they split me between Maxfac and oncology and kept me on.
The person to tackle about this is whoever ordered the scan. Good luck.

Hi Bridget
I'm sorry to hear that your husband's experience with his medical team has not been the best. Maybe they are overworked so don't have the time they need although that is not an excuse. At this time encouragement is required and a feeling of confidence with your team as you move forward. Your husband is lucky to have you to support him although it can be just as stressful for the carer as well as the patient.
I had a partial mandibulectomy and radiotherapy in 2013 and made a good recovery and returned to work after it. It did take a while but I was able to return to doing all the things I was doing before. It is a hard time in your life but there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel.
Hope the scans show positive news.

Good evening bridgetb, sorry to hear that your husband is feeling this way as it certainly does not help matters, i always insisted that I see my consultant because I had a bad experience with some of his team. You should not have to wait longer than two weeks, wishing you all the best for the results , take care.
