Lump under tongue

Two days ago I noticed a hard lump on the floor of my mouth under my tongue. The same side as where I had tongue cancer which was removed a month and a half ago. I thought it would be harmless, maybe a blocked salivary gland or something but I've had a look online and it looks like floor of the mouth cancer. I'll try to get it looked at as soon as possible but I'm absolutely sick with worry. I don't know how I'm going to cope with this after everything I've already been through.

  • Oh   please stop looking at Google. It’s more likely to be scar tissue. The pathologist would have looked at what your surgeon resected and there would have been clear margins if you hadn’t been called back. It’s best looked at to put  your mind at rest so please try not to catastrophise.. I know it’s hard. Fingers crossed

    • Hi Dani, thank you for your reply. I don't think it's scar tissue as its in a different place to where I had my surgery which was at the side of my tongue at the back. This new lump in under my tongue on the floor of the mouth. I know I shouldn't google having seen a photo which looked identical I'm convinced it's cancer as I don't know what else it could be. It also bled when I touched it with a cotton bud which is worrying me. I know I need to be strong and not think the worse but I'm in bits.
  • Give your CNS a ring rather than message.

  • Hi KitKat

Dani is right please don’t Google. I had a hard lump which turned out to be scar tissue, and it wasn’t in exactly the same spot. I get your worry though and little thing that looks different in my mouth I panic. I was told not to Google by the wonderful people on here, because when I did I made the pictures fit. As Dani advised give your nurse a ring , fingers crossed it’s all ok x

  • Hi Kit Kat we’ve all to learn to keep off Google we can all make symptoms fit. Give your cns a ring am sure they see you swiftly. My dentist last year saw something she didn’t like so refereed me was seen within a week it was nothing but always best to get checked out. You’ve done the waiting bit before so same advise keep busy and forget about dr Google please. It’s usually a weekend when you are helpless to contact anyone.

  • Good evening KitKat, please keep of Google as it will just fill you with worry like it has now but you must get it checked by your consultant asap , I find it very hard to believe it would return as quickly as this so it could well be scar tissue or just one of these lumps that appear then disappear. If it has returned then it will be treated very quickly, I had cancer return twice more but on the third time they were successful so sometimes its just one of those things that happen. I was just unlucky but grateful they cured in 2010. Fingers crossed for you, take care.                              Chris x

  • Thank you all so much for your advice and kind words. You're so right about Google and making the pictures fit. I've taken your advice on board and haven't done it since. I'll contact my CNS tomorrow.

  • Good luck Kitikat! The waiting and worrying is awful I know. I had a lump under my chin a few months after treatment - it turned out to be just fibrosis. I do hope yours is nothing and you can have a carefree Christmas. Sending love,
