Hi all,the past couple of months a lot of our friends have been going abroad,as I have probably mentioned in previous posts we had to cancel our 2 holidays to Tenerife and Rhodes, this has lead to many people saying to us “don’t worry you will be getting on that plane soon” I know they are trying to give us positivity but it’s made my Husband think it will be no problem at all,my worry is it may be,so what are your thoughts, his radio/chemotherapy start 16th October for 6 weeks then the oncologist mentioned that it was likely to be palliative care after that,if his cancer does indeed remain as “highly unlikely” to be cured and has to have some sort of ongoing treatment will we actually be able to go abroad? Will we get travel insurance and if so is it going to be an unreasonable cost?Im hoping to give him something to look forward to.Any thoughts/advice would be great xxx
Hi. There are insurers who you can try insure with or Staysure. Ti start with as for cost it depends on so many variables age pre existing illlness etc plus your attitude to risk There’s people on here who book last minute and travel without the cancer being covered. Have a word with his oncologist as well. It’s a difficult decision I would say you need your gh1c card which has replaced your e1-11. as a minimum. Which example covers you for emergency medical care in many but not all EU countries. Of course it doesn’t replace travel insurance which incudes repatriation and cancellation if need be.
I first travelled 8 weeks post treatment without cancer being covered as I didn’t have my pet ct scsn it hadn’t getn done. But we were travelling to an apartment we rent long term. I was covered fir everything other than cancer related stuff. I took the attitude we could fly home within 2 hours. But I must stress that was my choice. Now at 5 years post stay sure have covered me since I got my clear scan results.
I would ring the insurers rather than try online as that way you can explain

I would think the earliest you could go on holiday would be in the Spring, when he will be getting over the chemo/RT and any further treatment probably won't have started yet - but ask his oncologist or the specialist nurse team? I hope you have a lovely break together
