I have been undergoing Chemotherapy for Stage 4 SCC, I was just about to go for number 6 when the Consultant told me after 6 they will just "keep an eye on me", they don't want to give me Immunotherapy due to me having Rheumatoid Arthritis however there is no way of knowing exactly how it will affect me and as my cancer is still there I would rather live with Arthritis than Cancer :( . Surely the cancer will just keep growing if untreated?

  • Hi

So sad that you can’t have immunotherapy. Not everybody is a candidate and it doesn’t work for everyone. I would ask your oncologist to explain this properly so that you understand his decision. It’s impossible for us to know.
Is this a recurrence? Have you had radiotherapy? What chemo are you on?
Hope you get some info from your team.

  • Hi Dani

Have only had Chemo, Carboplatin and Paclitaxil, was diagnosed in May and told Radiotherapy wasn't an option due to sites of the cancer, I just feel I've been hung out to dry and he just kept saying no to the Immunotherapy despite my pleas for treatment to continue! Not a recurring cancer either

  • Hi. Can you seek a second opinion? You have every right to be seen at any hospital you want to in England if they have room.
There may be other reasons he is unwilling to use immunotherapy, such as your PD-L1 status.
He might mean that the drug might not actually make your arthritis worse but give you more life threatening complications. But he should explain why.
