Sinus Cancer

My 24 year old son was diagnosed with sinus cancer in August. What makes me so angry it was not detected in his CT scan at North Middlesex  Hospital in July.  We went to North Cyprus on Holiday and on the 3rd August I took him to a private hospital there and they diagnosed him. We came back to London and I took him to UCLH.
At his last appointment the doctor was not hopeful but did not give us much information. The cancer has spread to his right eye, nasal cavity and brain. He has swelling and bleeding in the brain which is under control now with steroids.
Is there anyone who can give me more information about the treatments they have recieved?

We have an appointment on Wednesday and I don’t know what to expect.
Im so scared and worried about him.

please, please, please I would like to someone who has gone through this too.

  • Hi Gizmo

I am so sorry to hear about your son's cancer. It must be so hard seeing your son going through this. As a mother I know that I would rather have the disease myself rather than having my children go through it and would do anything to help them. I had a different cancer to your son (in the jaw) so I am afraid I can't help with info on the treatment but I do hope someone on the forum can help.

Wishing all the best for your son and I do hope that you get some positive news on his treatment.

  • Good evening Gizmo, so sorry to be reading this, i have never been through this and can fully understand your concerns, it's alarming to hear that it was not detected in his scan, i like you would be so angry and upset. Hopefully, the appointment for tomorrow will be a bit more positive and they will come up with a plan, Please let us know how you get on, I wish you and your son all the very best, good luck, and take care.

  • Hi Gizmo,

I was diagnosed with sinus cancer back in 2020. what was the outcome from the appointment he had on Wednesday? My tumour was stage 4 but it had not spread anywhere else and was contained in the ethmoid and frontal sinus. I had 2 rounds of TPF chemotherapy and then had 7 weeks of chemoradiation.

  • Hi Dani,

No signs of any disease but radiation has affected the frontal sinus bone and frontal lobe. Having 6 monthly check ups and yearly scans. Have made peace that I will never be able to smell anything and coming to terms with the facial changes as the tumour has completely broken the bridge of my nose. I am back to full time working and do try to get in to the office for 2 days a week even though I should be going in for 3 days. I do have a very understanding manager.

  • Hi Tanya,

I’m so sorry to hear your stories. On Wednesday the doctors were positive unlike the one last week. He will have 3 cycles of chemo- cisplatin. Then 3 weeks of radiotherapy.
They did go through the side effects and loss of taste and smell was one. Also loss of sight in his right eye.
His tumour has spread from the nasal cavity into the brain and behind the right eye.

  • Thank you so much. I hope you get better soon. Pray

  • Thank you so much Chris,

yes it was more positive. He has to have 3 cycles of chemo then 3 weeks of radiotherapy. But it felt more hopeful unlike last appointment.
there might be side effects but we will deal with them as and when.
we need to get through this first.

thank you so much for your support Pray
