Folks. I’m 4 weeks after radiotherapy on my tonsils and neck. Had two lots of chemo too. Growing in strength now I’m out of hapital and aged 43 fairly young and healthy otherwise via the feeding through my rig but with only basic painkillers now struggling to eat or drink much more via my mouth. Any tips to help you? Either alternative or does a glass of wine help ease things? Thanks v much.
Hi Hallaig. If you can swallow then stick to soft bland foods
In no particular order
Canned macaroni cheese Canned rice pudding, soups, but not tomato which is acidic and irritant. Ice cream Make a smoothie with your fortisip or ensure that you’ve been using in your PEG Add banana avocado and peanut butter. Porridge add cream to it . Scrambled egg with Philadelphia added to keep it soft. Dunk biscuits in warm tea. Diet Pepsi or ginger ale is good to refresh your mouth. There are lots more that other people will add I’m sure
Wine? It was a year before I could do that it hurt like hell before that
Have you been given Difflam mouthwash ? That’s useful to swish around before trying to eat.

Good evening Hallaig, i agree with Dani in the sort of food to eat/swallow as you want something that slides down easily without too much chewing so food with sauces will help. Don't worry about swallowing too much at this stage especially if it starts to cause discomfort as its still early in your stage of recovery, it all takes time and I'm afraid it cannot be rushed but i like your attitude and determination to keep trying to swallow however you might find wine very acidy along with other types of alcohol, a small tip will do no harm although it took me six months to have a bottle of real ale rather than gassy beers. Wishing you all the best, take care.

Hi you might not think it but it’s really early days for you. Try soda water I found the bubbles helped ti clean my mouth ibe a d soda stream so could control the bubbles building them up. The others have covered food choices don’t overload your mouth find something you’re comfortable with you May find one week you can eat something and the next you can’t. Just leave it snd go bsck s few weeks later.
Improvements will happen it’s a marathon not a sprint. Try ti remember that.
Baby steps got me there.
