CBD oil

Hi all, I’ve posted on here a few times seeking advice on behalf of my husband who has cancer at the base of his tongue which is HPV P16 positive, which spread to oropharyngeal cancer and became P16 negative. Unfortunately none of the treatments have been successful, including immunotherapy, and we are at the stage where he has commenced a new chemotherapy treatment as a last resort. Apparently it is quite rare to have both P16 positive and P16 negative cancers which has made it hard to treat. My question is, has anyone on here ever tried, or have any knowledge or experience of using CBD oil. It has been suggested to my husband, and given his situation, it is tempting to try, but I am apprehensive about how it may affect the chemo, or what side effects can it give. He already experiences low postural blood pressure issues and I would not want to exacerbate this or give him something which could impair his senses and his ability to manage this given the low blood pressure already gives a high risk of falls and he has already had many. Any experience or knowledge of CBD oil would be welcomed. Thank you

  • Oh dear....my first reply seems to have been whisked away by the moderation filter so I will try again.

So sorry SnowWhite to read nothing has worked for your husband.

I tried C B D in the form of sweets after treatment ended. My oncologist told me they were OK but they did nothing for me so I abandoned them.

The oil doesn't have T H C in it so there shouldn't be any of the side effects you might be thinking of.

As far as interfering with chemo I would run anything past his team

Good luck. I hope you find something to help him

  • Hi

I have looked into this myself,  CBD oil is very good and as mentioned it doesn't have the THC which is the bit that makes you high.

I am not going to start a debate !! but personnally i think they should leagalise it purely for medical use only as it has so many benefits, but that's another story.....

It isn't cheap but you only need a drop on the end of a cocktail stick type amount. My freind got me some when i told her i was palative, but unfortunately it did't agree with my stomach otherwise i'd still be taking it... bit of a funny one my tum i have to be carefull what i throw at it !!

I also enquired about the CBD you can get from good health food shops, again this is very good but was told that the amount i would need would cost triple the above CBD oil, which i could not afford.

There is so much information on it to be able to say here, but if there is nothing else, then it's worth giving a try.

Sorry i couldn't be more helpfull.

    Good luck

  • Thank you Dani, that’s useful to know. We have an appointment with the consultant next Tuesday, with a further infusion of Gemcitabine/Carboplatin on Wednesday so we have the opportunity to ask.

  • Hi. My Mum got to a point of being in so much pain that we got her on CBD Oil (a gradual doseage increase). The herbal shop we bought it from also suggested we run it passed her team, but they were quite dismissive of an answer as to whether she could take it. I don't know which chemo she was on as it was for breast cancer but, it got to the point where she was in so much pain, she through caution to the wind. She claimed it didn't help but, we knew it did. I feel for you as it is a dilemma thinking you may just stop the chemo from working if you introduce something new. Hopefully your team will shine a bit of hope. Tricia

  • Thank you Piya10. You’re exactly right, that we don’t want to do anything which may be detrimental to his chemo. I have contacted the cancer nurse to ask the question. I don’t want them to approve or recommend it, we can make the decision whether to take it, I just need them to say if it will have a detrimental effect on treatment. If so, then we won’t use it yet, and see if chemo helps. If it doesn’t then what had he got to lose!

  • Thank you Cat. Is the stuff you refer to on the end of a cocktail stick the CBD oil, or proper cannabis? My understanding is that CBD oil is legal as it can be bought over the counter in varying strengths. I must admit it is very confusing. It’s definitely worth a try if nothing else works.

  • Hopefully his team will be able to say simply that it was ok to take without commenting on any efficacy, which understandably they can’t.

  • That’s all we need. Fingers crossed Fingers crossed tone1

  • Sorry Cat, I did reply but it seems to have disappeared. You have been very helpful. Did you take the over the counter CBD oil or from somewhere else, as you refer to something stronger? We are waiting to hear from his consultant about the impact on chemo. If it won’t harm treatment then we will give it a try. Thank you

  • CBD has potential benefits, including pain relief and reduced anxiety, which could be helpful in his case. However, it's crucial to consult his healthcare provider before considering it as a complementary option. They can provide personalized guidance on whether CBD might interact with his treatment, impact his blood pressure, or cause any adverse effects.
