I was called by my clinical nurse specialist today, who informed me my pet ct scan results had come back. This was my first scan since finish chemotherapy and radiotherapy for hpv+ lymph nodes.
Positives there's been no spread.
However couldn't give any other clearer updates, other than I've responded well to treatment, but the scans will need to be further discuss by the MDT. I have f2f appointments next week with the oncologist. No mention of the all clear. She did say this is your first scan since treatment and often they can be inconclusive.
I didn't expect today's phone call, as I was aware I had appointment next week. It's thrown me a little. Being told I've responded well is good, but it all feels over shadow by the fact the scan need to be looked at further by the MDT.
I almost wish I didn't know anything until the f2f appointment. It's left me feeling more anxiety and with more questions!
Hi WesG, try not to worry, there are lots of people on here who have had inconclusive scans, after their treatment. Lots of trusts leave it longer before the first scan, for this reason. Hopefully your f2f next week will give you a better picture of things. Good luck.
Regards Ray.
Hi WesG
exactly this happened to me except they didn’t phone me first. The MDT met before my appointment. My PET revealed activity where the cancer had been. The choice was whether to wait and re scan in three months or to biopsy. Thank heavens I didn’t need to argue for a biopsy as a three month wait would have been awful. They got me in the next week. I was assured failure at this stage was practically unheard of. Luckily there was no cancer left.

Hi Wes. All results needs discussing at m d t. Sometime I wish the cns wouldn’t ring patients. I was 19 weeks when I got my results directly from oncologist which I think is how it should be. I was scanned 18 weeks after treatment finished.
I never got the all clear I know very few who have had those words the best we get is no evidence of disease. And you’ve responded well to treatment. . even 2 weeks ago when I had my last ent appointment the words all clear weren’t used. it’s a thing that you tend to see on tv but not real life.
You’ll be jittery until next week but remain positive it’s extremely rare our treatment fails at the first hurdle. Hot spots aren’t unusual depends when scanning was done ? If you’re showing hot spot hopefully like Dani was a false flag and you don’t have to wait too long.
hooe this helps.

I think I just read into everything. Even people's pauses. You're right the sharing and the terms used day to day in the media.
Thank you
Good evening WesG, i would not read anything bad about this phone call as they are not allowed to give any positive or negative information over the phone because it puts people on edge. Save all your questions and concerns up until your appointment next week, this is why i never look up anything on Dr Google as it can also make matters ten times worse. I was never offered a scan after my first cancer but looking back i wish i was just as reassurance and peace of mind. All the best for next week, try keeping busy to occupy your mind , take care.

Hi after pet scan showed hotspot in the chest area my husband was sent for ct chest. It was reviewed by Respiratory team and he was told it was nothing to be worried about. Was just inflammation due to the Radiotherapy. He didn’t even have to see the Respiratory team, his ENT consultant phoned him to let him know. Was a very worrying few weeks though. Like others have said Pet Scan picks up everything. Fingers crossed all goes well for you
