Morning good people
I had an appoitment at the hospital on Tuesday with the dentist as i have a couple of bad teeth.
He had a conflab with the surgeon i had when i was first diagnosed last September.
They're not going to take them out because of the radiotherthapy i had. They are worried the bone won't heal, which could leading to a possible graft and that not healing ethier.
They took an up to date x-ray and i'm going back in 3/4 months for a check.
So it looks like i'm going to have to put up with them. I suppose it won't be as bad as the alternative.
I'm guessing they must already be really bad as i can feel niggly pain on top of the morphine i take, so i'm hoping the roots will die off soon and that'll be the end of them.

Hi Cat. Will they not offer you root canal and crown reduction. That what I have in one of mine and it’s settled right down.

Hi Cat
what they are trying to avoid is you having Osteoradionecrosis (ORN)… this is something I had after my treatment and lost a bit of my jawbone.. sounds dramatic but not that bad in the overall scheme of things. In short a white patch appeared at the back of my mouth under my back tooth. In the end this turned out to be dying bone and one evening a 1 1/2 inch bit of jaw bone came away. Luckily for me there was good growth behind it so it has now healed. I go back to the hospital for dental check ups regularly and have one next week. They will look to avoid at all costs pulling the tooth because of the increased ORN risk which is something you really don’t want. I would still push for root canal work if you can but they will want to see how things settle down first. I now use very high fluoride toothpaste which you with need on prescription which I think is helping. Anyway it’s a bit of grin and bare it and let them watch and see.. make sure you really work on keeping the dental hygiene at a high level. Best wishes
Hi Montus
Thank you for your reply,
I think it maybe, they just said that the bone could start to 'melt' away, go soft ?? . In which case I would need a graft.
Unfortunately it's not just one tooth, it's two, one each side of my crown, which think he said is also causing problems.
I've had a follow up appointment come through for October, so I'll sit back for now and see what they say then.
I don't really want to risk going through all that if I don't have to.
I do use the prescrition toothpaste, can't remember the name though!
It sounds like you're going through a challenging time with your teeth. It's understandable to have concerns, but it's good that the medical team is looking out for your well-being. Hang in there, and hopefully, things will improve without too much discomfort. If your treatment isn't going well, you could try here. Your positive outlook is inspiring!
