Can still feel lump

Hi,

I’m just over 2weeks after my last session of radiotherapy. I had 30. I was just wondering if anyone who has gone through radio to the lymph nodes remembers whether they could still feel a lump at this stage? It’s definitely reduced in size but I can still feel a lump & am worried the radio didn’t work. I don’t have an ENT appt till 3rd July so was hoping someone could put my mind at rest as I’m already struggling with the aftermath of treatment. Many thanks in advance.

Maureen

  • I had mine surgically removed, so I’m not sure about still feeling a lump. Someone will pop on who will have a better idea to advise you. Do you have a specialist nurse you could ring and have a chat with, mine is very helpful and supportive

  • Hi Maureen,

My husband had 5 lymph nodes treated with radiotherapy (30) sessions, he was really worried as after treatment he could still feel them, he asked to see his ent consultant earlier then he was ment to just to put his mind at rest, the radiotherapy had worked and I think a lot of it was due to swelling and inflammation. He’s now 5 months post treatment and had the all clear 2 months ago, hope this helps a little bit, when you’ve been through so much you just want to know the treatment has worked. Best wishes with your recovery.

  • Hi Maureen. That’s normal. You can expect it to take quite a few weeks for it to disappear so no don’t worry.

  • Mandy, thankyou for that. Yes, as you say it’s an anxious time & the thought that it hasn’t worked does your head in. I’ll just try to concentrate on healing.

  • Oh thanks Dani, that’s a relief. The thought of having to go through more treatments had me going a bit. Thankyou so much. X

  • Hi Maureen. It’s not unusual try to get him to stop fiddling with it easy ti say hard to do. Trust in the treatment it takes time for everything to settle down  it’s pretty brutal and inflammation takes time to subside.
my pet fr scan was almost 18 weeks after treatment. I was fine with that had I knew at start the date of my final scan
