Hello all.you wonderful people. A huge thankyou for all the tips and suggestions which is helping me through post opo.
My hubby and my daughters are looking after me so well, I feel.so very lucky.
I start my radiation treatment in a couple of weeks.
I've met the team listened to the symptoms which could happen. Wow there's lots isn't there..
I'm.asking for any advice on going through radiotherapy.
I'm having a rig fitted as it may be difficult to eat if my mouth gets too sore...Best to have the option and not need it, than not and would do.
So, what did you do to cope with the side effects, and how long after did they go away.
Thank you all again. Love and hugs Ellie x
Update...I had the mask fitted a couple of days ago. They was an experience. Don't want one of those again. My face is still.sore and swollen from the surgery. But its done and I'm proud of myself for doing it.
Rig being fitted next week...I chose to have one fitted incase my throat and mouth become too sore to eat.
Teeth out along with teeth cleaning. Then I'll be ready for the radiotherapy treatment. 33 sessions over 6.5 weeks, which seems the norm
Any tips for the treatment would be so useful please.
Thsnkyou to everyone, what a fantastic group of people.
Love to you all Ellie
Hi Ellie, well done getting your mask fitted, it's good you are having a RIG, like you say even if you don't need it, it's there in case you do, they are a lifesaver, if you can't eat. During my RT my wife used to apply Aloe vera gel to my neck (only after each session not before) also get as much rest as you can, during your treatment. Your treatment time is about the norm, it will quickly pass, then you will be on your recovery back to health. All the best.
Regards Ray.
Hi Ellie It sounds like you are doing really well and getting over the obstacles as they come. Good for You , I would recommend getting audible books on your phone and listening to something you enjoy helps pass the time . Walking everyday really helped me. All the Best Regards Minmax

Let your radiographers know how you feel every day. There’s no point in trying to be brave. If you’re in pain tell them so that they can arrange your pain relief to be tweaked.
Take pain relief by the clock to stay ahead of the pain
When I had to use my NG tube for meds and food I found it a huge chore to bolus feed six times a day so changed to slow drip feeding through the night by pump. That saved my sanity. I could concentrate on being me through the day
Get outside even if only for a little while.
I’ll second Aloe Vera gel. I didn’t burn at all.
I had 3O days RT and avoided chemo. It soon passed. Nothing lasts forever
