Afternoon, am 15 sessions into radiotherapy and am now struggling with ulcers on side on tongue which has swollen and stopping me from talking (some say a relief). Has anyone got good tips to heal and get rid?
Hi Red
You’re half way through which is good
Im afraid those ulcers won’t start healing until a few weeks after treatment ends. Let your radiographers know how you are so that you can get proper pain relief to manage.
You’ll probably have lots of mouth preps so use them. I had Caphosol Difflam Corsodyl Gelclair as well as home made soda bic and salt rinses.
Ask anything here. Somebody will have an answer.

Hi ihad gelclair prescribed plus did numerous rinses with salt water and baking powder. They do impede on your amity to swallow but sadly a part of treatment i had one full length of tongue didnt stop me talking much to hubbys relief otherwise i threatened a bell !yiu can try gargling with soluble aspirin just rinse and spit.some hospital offer caphosol as well but thats better if given from the start.if it’s impeding your eating and yi have a peg. Use the peg for food and water .the radiotherapy sadly will continue to make it worse as radiation ulcers arent like ordinary ulcers

Hi Red
Using Caphosol for tongue and throat ulcers...does help in the long run,.,
Lip ulcers were giving me a hard time...Pharmacy and oncology teams said I was OK to use Clenil Modulite Inhaler (prescribed for Rheumatoid arthritis methotrexate Side effects) straight onto lip area...but not in mouth...cleared up lips a treat.
