Ever since i had my RIG fitted i've had problems, it's leaked most of the time causing the skin to be painfully sore and infected, and be in excruciating pain when ever i moved.
I finally had the stitches snipped on the buttons this morning, the nurse was not happy at all.
The stitches were far too tight and the tube has pulled which in turn has erroded the stoma sight.
After seeing it she said it was no wonder i am in so much pain. So unfortunately i'm not able to go home as hoped and will have to stay in the hospice for a few more days. I don't mind that as they are absolutely lovely here.
On the plus side, now the buttons are gone the nasty gunk is not collecting underneath them anymore, so it will make it so much easier to clean, it's already a lot more comfortable moving around.
It's now gurgling, blowing bubbles and making rude noises at me !!
Fingers cossed it will heal properly now.

Hi Cat
Sorry to hear that the RIG is causing so many issues. I hope that it will improve now that the buttons are gone. I am glad to hear that they are looking after you so well in the hospice but hope you get an early discharge if things are improving. There's no place like home but hospital is great when things are not going so well.
Sending you all my best wishes for a very speedy recovery.

Hi Cat - You'll do much better now that the sutures are out, it really makes a difference! Keep it clean and pat dry daily and even though you do get a bit of gunk, it's nothing compared to when it's pinched against the skin. I remember thinking that I hadn't realised how much it was pinching until after the nurse had removed the sutures. Hopefully you'll be out of hospital soon too. I used my RIG from end of week 4 for Fortisips and it was marvelous for getting calories in when I didn't want/ couldn't be bothered to eat or felt nauseous. And the nice thing to be aware of is that it comes out in seconds once you're ready to have it removed
Take care, Helen x
Thank you every one.
It is more comfortable as you say now the stitches have gone.
But the site is so, so sore and painfull on occassions due to the skin being erroded away around the stoma. They are dressing it three tiems a day and keeping it nice and clean, until i decides to spurt and blow bubbles at me again !!
I'm more than happy to be here, as i know the wound can be kept an eye on and much better looked after. Staying here is nothing like being in a hospital, if the nurses didn't wear uniforms you would never know.
Again thank you for your comments.
I hope your all doing well and have a great day.

It sounds as if you are being well cared for Cat, it sounds as if you have had some sort of infection or a side effect from the tube, it all takes time to settle down, its all heading in the right direction, take it easy.

Glad you're feeling easier now on the gurgling side of things don't sneeze or cough whilst it's open as my husband acquired a water feature like fountain !!!! Amusing from my angle but he couldn't see the funny side of it whoops.
Cardmaker23....
I'd have just folded with laughter if that happened to me, which obviously would have made it worse.
I think the image i have of that will stay with me for the rest of the day.
Thank you !

I was allowed to come home yesterday evening, after nearly two weeks in the hospice
My wounds are healing really quickly, thanks to some cream that is absolute magic, it heals from the inside out and pushes the gunk out as well.
Although it still has some healing to do it only needs to be dressed once a day now which the distric nurse can do. They tried to get me to stay a little longer, but i didn't see the point of taking up a bed that some one else needs more than i did/do.
All the staff in the hospice were fantastic and i can't praise them enough.
Unlike the surgeon who fitted my RIG, who has been reported and i'm given to understand there are going to be repercussions over this.
Anyway, i'm off down to my local cafe to sit in this glourious sunshine and chill out for an hour so !
Have a great day people.

Hi Cat
Such good news, so glad to hear that you are home now. Enjoy that wonderful sunshine.
The cream you are using sounds as though it is doing a great job. I do hope that the surgeon now evaluates his process and modifies it so that no one else has to go through what you have gone through.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
