My husband has been diagnosed with cancer at the base of the skull after chemoradiotherapy for tonsil soft palette cancer this has caused pressure on the fourth optical nerve and a eye palsy which has closed eye completely has anyone out there experienced the same . This gets him down more than the diagnosis or treatment (immunotherapy) and is stressing me as well as solo carer , he's already been put on anxiety meds to try and help  . Any help or ideas or words of wisdom would be appreciated by the both of us i know we are all going through the same thing and that I am asking a lot and don't mean to be a nuisance .I'm diagnosed as bipolar so I'm up and down normally Lynne

  • Hi Cardmaker23

I am so sorry to hear you are both struggling.

I didn't have chemotherapy or radiotherapy, so cannot offer any advice there, others on here can and will.

I did suffer from anxiety though, please look up Macmillan free counselling, they were wonderful and helped me enormously.

  • You are not a nuisance Lynne , we all get worried and stressed as its all new to us, i have never experienced this as my cancers were in a different area of the head and neck, it was a worrying time sometimes but with the help of my consultant and his team i got through it , but having the support of family and friends is a massive plus. I also went to see a Macmillian counselor to help when i was suffering from depression plus i was prescribed anti-depressants by my G.P they both helped me get through the difficult periods. All the best. take care.
