Hello everyone
Has anyone had a RIG fitted during course of radiotherapy? My partner is 4 weeks in a 6 week course for tonsil cancer and declined a RIG when offered prior to radiotherapy. However he is now not able to eat, anything. Still managing liquid, all meds are soluble or liquid. Cannot tolerate shakes/fortisips making him nauseous, has survived the last four days on candy floss! We were told not able to have RIG fitted once treatment has started, anyone had a different experience? Desperately trying to avoid the NG tube. Thanks.
Hi The Moog, I'm not too sure if anyone on here, has had a RIG fitted during treatment, however there are many who have had an NG tube, and got on with them quite well. He really does need to get his nourishment sorted, as food is fuel for recovery. Also it will take the worry from not eating away.
Ray.
Hi. I have read here that some people have but honestly having the discomfort of getting it fitted and the week or so of letting it settle seems like extra torture to me. I had an NG tube and got on with it very well. I fed at night via a pump so that I could get in with other things through the day. Yes it made me look like a cancer patient but I didn’t care. That’s what I was.

The internet is awash with recipes fir high protein high energy shakes. Could your partner maybe try something like that?

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that your partner was concerned. I was simply describing how I felt. If it was insensitive then I apologise

Hi…
iv got 8 treatments left to go, and I’m struggling now to eat, I can chew and swallow it’s the dryness and taste makes me gag and even the fortisips make me sick
im struggling with nausea too the anti sickness are not working too well.
I wanted to avoid the tube but I think I might have to give in, but I think I would prefer the tummy tube
