Just seen the ENT

Hey everyone, so I managed to a get a Cancellation today last minute to see the ENT about the tongue swelling and nodes. He did not seem concerned at all (which was amazing) he said that the swelling was the sublingual gland and it could be swollen from an old infection or just normal swelling. He didn't worry about the hard lymph nodes under my chin or the tiny cervical lymph nodes either. He said he would order me an ultrasound because of my anxiety, but said that he wouldn't have bothered if I wasn't nervous. I'm obviously massively relieved, but at the same time feel a bit confused as to what to now do with this swelling in my tongue, no advice was given. Has anyone ever reached out for a second opinion or should I trust that the information I was given was correct? X

  • Did you ask him what the tongue swelling is?

  • He just said it's the sublingual gland, it could have been from an old blockage or just sometimes these glands just swell? I wasn't quite convinced with his answer, but he is the professional after all. X just glad I've got an ultrasound x

  • Swollen salivary glands aren't uncommon. They are due to salivary gland stasis. You can google treatment which is simple....but don't google anything else....stop at the treatment. I'm sure your ENT is spot on. Thank heavens its nothing serious

  • That's great news, the ultrasound will put your mind at rest totally.

  • Good evening Gemzgg, please take your consultant's advice , a lot of the swelling etc can be down to worry and anxiety, i have known people including my wife who had a lump appear and then disappear but they were given an ultrasound just to be sure. I still have a lump on my neck from 10 years ago which was scanned and given the all-clear. If i was you i would wait for the results of the ultrasound scan and see what the consultant recommends, he sounds very confident with his examination so take this opportunity to relax and enjoy yourself. Wishing you all the best for the ultrasound, take care.
