Hello
my husband finished 33 radiology sessions on 7th December. He has had oral thrush a couple of times since but nothing too bad. Last weeeksnd he had a huge lump on side of neck come up and speech got a lot worse. He was in hospital a couple of days and they gave him antibiotics and let him go but said he would need to go back for scan. He had the scan Monday and has a two week wait for results.
he is struggling with a lot of foods, anything fizzy, spice.. could this be radiology kicking in again?
they think the lump a blocked gland.
Hi Cala and welcome. They say the radiotherapy has a residual effect for 2/3 weeks so it’s not likely that’s the cause. Your husband is around 11 weeks post treatment so it is just early days. I couldn’t eat anything remotely hot spicy for a year. A lot of us never can. So it’s a question of concentrating on the foods he can eat and slowly experimenting and broadening his repertoire. Fours years down the line I find still that some foods can irritate me.
I too had a blocked infected salivary duct, my parotid on the good side. Antibiotics fixed it.
Good luck with his scan results
Is he scheduled for a PET scan around 12/16 weeks?

Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
Hi Cala it’s early days for him food wise. I’m fast approaching 5 years and I still, can’t do spicy.I’ve learned to adapt if we want a curr6 I go for coconut milk and aromatics cumin coriander tumeric. It all about finding what’s comfortable to eat. I adore cheese but it gives me burnI g tongue so if I really really want to eat it I put up with the consequences. Best advice is if he can’t eat something)ng forget about ut for a few weeks then try again. I found for the first 6 months smaller plates more frequently and nursery food rather than full dinners. Poached eggs in toast were a good chiixe then added smashed avocado. Toast easier than bread lots of butter. Chicken thighs rather than breast lots of gravy or plain sausss. Some people can do the fish in parsley sauce. My blog below might help will pop a few links to cook books as well
