Hi all i am going to receive 6 weeks of radio and 6 x Chemo. Hopefully starting end January.  Am i right in assuming the Chemo will be 1 day per week alongside the radio or do they administer the Chemo in one block.  I have to have stomach tube fitted next week which under normal circumstances would give me sleepless night, however when i read about the treatment i am to receive that seems like a walk in the park. Thanks

  • Hi Alanlands, You will have RT every day, and your   chemo once each week. The RIG or PEG you are having fitted, will really help later on in your treatment, if eating becomes difficult, it will take the worry out of not eating, and give you the calories.you need. Lots of people on here have had feeding tubes, including myself, I was totally reliant on it for about 10 weeks. Any questions you have or worries, just ask on here, someone will always help, if they can.

    Regards Ray.

  • Good evening Alanlands, a good reply from Ray (old biker) , i agree with all he has said, the PEG will be a great asset as swallowing can become difficult towards the end of treatment, it depends where you are having the radio done and how you cope with the side/ after effects of the treatment. I always kept a positive attitude and steered clear of Dr Google relying on advice and information from cancer forums like this as we have  "worn the tee shirt " as the saying goes. I was very good with the chemo but some people do get sick (nausea) from it , again it affects us differently. Wishing you all the best in your treatment, take care, and good luck.

  • Hi. I’m 9 months post treatment. I had 6 weeks of chemoradiation for tonsil & lymph node hpv. I had 6 x chemo  (Cisplatin) & 30 x radio.
I had chemo every Monday & radio every day. Weekends ‘ off’.
Prior to treatment I had surgery then a PEG fitted. I used my PEG from week 4 of treatment for several weeks.
This forum is great. Such support & good advice. Ask anything you want & we’ll all try & answer.

  • Hi Alan and welcome. The treatment is a challenge. There is no getting away with. It some people have an easier ride than others and we all survive it. I was 67 when I started and 68 when I finished and I'm all but four years clear now.

I had a nasogastric tube placed in week four and had it in place for eight weeks. There's a chap here on the forum who finishes Friday and has avoided a tube entirely....so we are all different.

My advice would be to do as your team tells you, tell them if something isn't working, take your painkillers by the clock and take it day be day.

Stay with us and we will watch your back.

    Best wishes
